"We're fine thanks"

"Our information doesn't need sorting, we're fine thanks."

People say this, but then get confused by the monthly accounts pack or the latest investment proposal.

And people then often rationalise away their confusion. They blame the topic: "it's complex". Or blame themselves: "I'm no good with numbers" or "I always struggle with this".

These comments miss the point. It's the information's fault. Managers get short-changed with unclear information, yet don't realise it - and won't realise it until something better arrives.

It's like the London Tube map. Before Mr Beck straightened it out in 1932, it was a literal diagram of where trains went and everyone thought it fine. Then Beck's brilliant new design showed how average earlier maps had been.

And often, this is the case with documents at work. Management don't realise just how much they can be improved - until someone shows them how.

Let me show you how. Your information packs and new business pitches are important. Let me redo them so you can see just how much better they can be.
